Syracuse, N.Y. — Sally Dee failed to make the 36-hole cut Friday at the United States Women’s Senior Open.
Dee, a graduate of Westhill High School, qualified for the field last month in a Tampa suburb. She shot 84 the opening day and 83 on Friday at the Waverley Country Club in Portland, Oregon, for a 2-day total of 167. The cut came at 8-over 152.
Dee, now 52, was a 2-sport star at Westhill, earning a state championship and all-state honors in basketball and notice for her golf prowess. She played golf at the University of South Florida and was a member of the LPGA Tour. Lately, she has focused her efforts on her business, Playbook Public Relations.
She was the second-longest hitter in the Open field this week with an average drive of 236 yards. Dee was the ReMax 2004 Long Drive champion in the women’s division.
In Portland, Dee tied for 37th in fairways hit, tied for 115th in greens in regulation and tied for 50th in number of putts. Scotland’s Catriona Matthew leads the tournament at 4-under-par. Only two women, Matthew and Nicole Jeray (1-under), have broken par after two rounds.
Dee, who now lives in Tampa, was in Syracuse and Skaneateles working on her game in the days preceding the Open.
