Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse women’s basketball earned its 24th-straight home nonconference win Monday night against Northeastern, as the Orange defeated the Huskies 79-57 inside the JMA Wireless Dome.
Junior guard Georgia Woolley led SU with 17 points, continuing her perfect free-throw percentage this season. Woolley went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, bringing her total to 22 this season.
Freshman Sophie Burrows led the Orange (7-1) from beyond the arc, scoring all nine of her points on 3-pointers. Fifth-year guard Dyaisha Fair had two 3-point buckets of her own, scoring 14 points on the night.
Derin Erdogan led the Huskies (4-4) in scoring with 23 points. Deja Bristol posted 16 points for Northeastern as well.
WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED
Syracuse turned on the jets in the third quarter, ending with an 9-0 run going into the fourth. The run started with ACC Freshman of the Week Alyssa Latham’s layup with 3:26 to go and was followed up with back-to-back treys from Sophie Burrows with 1:03 to play. A free-throw from Alaina Rice gave the Orange one of their largest lead of the game at 54-41 at the end of the third.
Syracuse eventually built a 27-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.
HELP FROM THE BENCH
The Orange enjoyed 26 points from the bench, led by junior Saniaa Wilson and Burrows. Both had nine points and two rebounds each, with Burrows grabbing two steals and Wilson shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Syracuse improved to 8-1 against Northeastern. Monday’s game was the first meeting since a 72-69 Syracuse win on Nov. 12, 2010.
- The Orange improve to 6-0 at home against the Huskies.
- SU gets its 24th straight home nonconference win.
