‘The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion’ episode 13: Channel, free stream

Season 39 of The Challenge, “Battle for a New Champion,” airs another episode of Chaos — “El Saboteur” — on MTV on Wednesday, January 10 (1/10/2024) at 8 p.m. ET.

In episode 31 of “The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion,” the Challengers face another veteran mercenary in the Chaos portion of the competition, and a new alliance emerges to upset the stagnant power dynamics in the house. Is this the week fans will finally see Chris “C.T.” Tamburello in the Arena, and will he be out for Jay’s blood?

What happened last time on “The Challenge”?

Last week was one of those episodes that really makes you wonder about how much production controls, because if you thought Michele was out of the woods after dodging an elimination against Laurel in episode 11, you were wrong. In fact, even Michele doesn’t seem to think the story is over, because she’s still talking like the elimination is on the horizon to start the episode.

At the Daily Challenge, competitors are put in teams and tasked with shoving the other team off a platform high above the water. There’s something wonderfully simple about the challenge, which mostly comes down to strength, but has room for strategic maneuvering as well. Ultimately, Berna, Ed, Horacio and Zara win, but they miss an opportunity to nominate anyone consequential for elimination. Instead, the lowest of low hanging fruits, Colleen, is on the chopping block.

As alliances and friendships elsewhere in the house begin to show cracks (notably, Nurys and Olivia), the group chickens out again at the nomination, and sends Ravyn back down to the Arena. At least Cory owns up to it, recognizing that there’s nothing impressive about the group…
