Howes Cave, N.Y. — Sometimes, love stinks.
But this Valentine’s Day, an animal shelter in Upstate New York is offering folks a chance to lean into their revenge era for a good cause.
For $5, the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley will write the name of your ex — or anyone else who has done you dirty — in the shelter cats’ litter box. The crew will place the litter box graffitied with names and filled with fresh litter in the cats’ room on Valentine’s Day.
“You could be bitter, or you could be bitter and supporting animals in need,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook post promoting the fundraiser.
The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley tried out the litter box Valentine’s Day fundraiser last year, said Maggie Jackman-Pryor, executive director of the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley. It was so popular that the shelter decided to give it a sequel.
“It is a great twist on Valentine’s Day,” Jackman-Pryor said. “We’re always looking for creative fundraisers because it’s sometimes difficult to stand out.”
So far, most donors are opting to write the names of their exes and former friends who have “done them wrong” in the cats’ litter box, Jackman-Pryor said.
To add your enemy’s name to the cats’ future toilet, make a $5 donation to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley by midnight. Donations can be made in person, by PayPal or by Venmo; include a note of the name you’d like to add to the litter box.
For animal lovers feeling more optimistic about love, the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley can make donations online or buy items on the shelter’s Chewy and Amazon wish lists.
