“Ask not what your school can do for you, but what you can do for your country” might be the motto of one Upstate New York college which was recently honored for doing the most good for America in an annual ranking.
Washington Monthly recently released their 2023 College Guide and Rankings which ranks four-year schools (national universities, liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate colleges, and master’s universities) in three categories: social mobility, research, and providing opportunities for public service.
For a school to climb the rankings, they must do well in each category and not just one.
SUNY Geneseo, located in the Finger Lakes, earned the top spot on the overall list out of 604 master’s universities. The college placed #1 in service, #2 in research, and #69 in social mobility.
According to the school, they have been in the top five of Washington Monthly’s list for 11 consecutive years. Other Upstate NY colleges to make the list include Cornell, Buffalo State, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, SUNY Cortland and SUNY Potsdam.
Not only does SUNY Geneseo rank in the top of the nation for their contributions to the public good, the school also hits the high notes in other categories. In recent years they have made the list for best meal plans and one of the 50 most beautiful college campuses in America.
SUNY Geneseo also came in at #62 for Washington Monthly’s ranking of best bang for your buck colleges, but was beat out by other Upstate New York schools like Cornell, Buffalo State, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, SUNY New Paltz and more.
