Upstate NY teacher posed as student to get explicit videos from middle schoolers, feds say

A Monroe County teacher posed as a high school student to get explicit videos from middle schoolers federal prosecutors said Wednesday.

Ian Milam, 37, of Pittsford, has been charged with child porn possession and sending obscene material to a minor, prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western District of New York said in a news release.

In May, Greece police found that someone using two Snapchat accounts was contacting girls, ages 11 and 12, and sending them sexually explicit videos and photos, prosecutors said.

Police traced the accounts to Milam, who is a sixth grade math teacher at Cosgrove Middle School in the Spencerport School District, prosecutors said.

Milam coerced the girls, including one of his students, into sending him explicit photos and videos of themselves, according to his criminal complaint.

Investigators in an affidavit said he talked with at least three other minors on Snapchat.

Milam is being held in jail pending the outcome of a detention hearing Monday. If convicted, he faces a minimum 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors ask anyone with information on Milam or the Snapchat accounts he used — matteckler and mikeywikey37 — to contact the FBI at 585-279-0085.
