Upstate NY town code enforcement officer threatened to shoot person with gun, troopers say

Theresa, N.Y. — A town code enforcement officer from Jefferson County was charged Thursday with threatening a person with a gun, troopers said.

Terry L. McKeever, who worked for the town of Theresa, pulled out the pistol while attempting to serve paperwork, said Trooper Jack Keller, a state police spokesman.

McKeever, 68, of Philadelphia, New York, had a history of issues with the person, Keller said.

A state trooper said in court documents that McKeever had threatened to shoot the person, who was unarmed.

Police charged McKeever with second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Keller said.

He is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County CAP Court Feb. 24.
