Video: Buddy Boeheim’s wild buzzer-beating 3-pointer wins G-league game

“Buddy Buckets” lived up to his nickname Sunday.

Former Syracuse basketball player Buddy Boeheim sank a leaping, one-handed 3-pointer at the buzzer Sunday to lift the Motor City Cruise to a 119-116 NBA G-League win over the Westchester Knicks Sunday afternoon at the Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit.

With the game tied and just .8 seconds left in regulation, Tosan Evbuomwan inbounded the ball to a running Boeheim a few feet beyond the three-point arc. Boeheim jumped, turned and heaved the ball toward the basket. It went in, sparking a celebration on the court.

The three-pointer gave Boeheim 12 points for the day. Through 24 games with the Cruise, Boeheim is averaging 15.8 points per game. He recently signed a two-way contract with the Cruise’s NBA parent club, the Detroit Pistons.

Syracuse native Nathan Knight, a teammate of Boeheim’s with the Cruise, also had a big game. Knight had 21 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for the Cruise, now 12-13 on the season.
