The top-ranked Hobart College hockey team edged 14th-ranked Trinity College at the Koeppel Community Sports Center this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are now 10-2-0 on the season.
Jonah Alexanderย andย Shane Shellย led the way for Hobart with a goal and an assist each. Sophomoreย Damon Beaverย made 33 saves as he earned his sixth win of the season.
Ned Blanchard scored for the Bantams (7-2-0). Devon Bobak made 29 saves in just under 59 minutes of work in the Trinity goal.
KEY STATS:
- Trinity finished the game with a 34-31 edge in shots on goal.
- Neither team converted on their power-play opportunities.ย Hobart was 0-for-4 on the power play and Trinity was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
MAKING THE KILL
- The Statesmen entered the weekend with the nationโs best penalty kill unit. Hobart had killed off all 31 of its opponentโs power-play opportunities. With todayโs 5-for-5 effort, the Statesmen have killed off 36 straight.
- Last year, Hobart had an 11-game stretch where they did not allow a power-play goal. The Statesmen have played 12 games this season without allowing a PPG.
- Hobart only allowed two shots on goal this afternoon.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Shell opened the scoring 55 seconds into the second period. He broke down the right wing and slipped a shot past Bobak for his first goal of the season. Alexander registered an assist on the tally.
- Trinity tied the game two minutes later. Ned Blanchard ripped a shot from the right faceoff circle past Beaver. His first goal of the season was assisted by Kyle Tomaso and Theodore Griffin.
- Alexander scored the game-winning goal at the 11:02 mark of the third period. He snapped a shot from the left faceoff circle past Bobak. His second goal of the season was assisted by Shell andย Tristan Fasig.
UP NEXT
The Statesmen will be back in action on Dec. 31, when it welcomes Middlebury College to The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the non-conference contest.
