The second-ranked William Smith lacrosse team extended its win streak to seven straight to begin the season with a 15-9 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this afternoon in a Liberty League matchup in the Poole Family Sports Dome. The Herons are 7-0 overall this season with a 2-0 mark in conference play, while the Engineers fall to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League.
Sophomore Natalie Daniels led William Smith with five points on four goals and one assist. She added three draw controls and one ground ball in the win for the Herons. Senior Allie McGinty also finished with five points this afternoon on three goals and two assists. Senior Maddie Montgomery and junior Katherine Murray chipped in four points each on two goals and two assists. Junior Maura Smeaderplayed all 60 minutes in goal for William Smith and tallied eight saves. She is now 7-0 on the season.
Three players registered three points for the Engineers. Ella Graff and Megan Shay each recorded hat tricks in the loss, while Lauren DeLeo chipped in three points on one goal and two assists. Jenny Canfield played all 60 minutes in net for RPI and recorded 15 saves. Â
