Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a $78 million investment for water infrastructure improvements across New York. This funding, approved by the Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors, will support projects in various regions including the Capital Region, Finger Lakes, New York City, North Country, Southern Tier, and Western New York. These projects aim to enhance public health, environmental protection, and economic development.
The funding comprises both grants and financing through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, as well as federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds. This initiative will facilitate critical water and sewer infrastructure projects, helping municipalities access capital for development. Significant projects include the Albany Municipal Water Finance Authority’s sewer overflow abatement projects and the Village of Portville’s drinking water improvements.
In addition to new projects, the Board has approved an $847 million bond sale to refinance wastewater and drinking water projects, which is projected to save New York City ratepayers $149 million over 30 years. This initiative reflects New York’s ongoing commitment to ensuring clean water and upgrading infrastructure, with an emphasis on economic efficiency and sustainability.
