David Peterson turned in a quality outing, and the offense generated seven hits, including three home runs, but another bullpen meltdown hurt the New York Mets (64-77) in an 8-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins (75-67) on Saturday afternoon at Target Field.
Box Score
Peterson, making his 18th start of the season, allowed three runs over six innings. When the left-hander departed, Drew Smith came on and gave up four runs before Jeff Brigham surrendered another.
Brandon Nimmo, Pete Alonso, and DJ Stewart smacked solo home runs, while Daniel Vogelbach added a run-scoring single.
The Mets will try to avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday at 2:10 p.m. with Tylor Megill on the bump.
