Auburn man pleads guilty to leaving dogs in cages, trapped in 80 degree heat

An Auburn resident, Jeffrey Jones, has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty after his two pitbull mix dogs were discovered living in inhumane conditions, confined in wire crates under tarps amidst 80-degree heat.

The Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY, along with the Auburn Police Department and Cayuga County District Attorneyโ€™s Office, executed a search and seizure warrant on June 2, resulting in the dogsโ€™ rescue from Jonesโ€™ Orchard Street home.

Following the seizure, Jones was served with four appearance tickets for Animal Cruelty.

On July 7, Jones admitted to a charge of Animal Cruelty for failing to provide proper shelter. As part of his plea agreement, Jones surrendered the dogs to the FLSPCA. The organization announced that the dogs, one male and one female, would be available for adoption starting Monday, July 17.
