Better Business Bureau warns job seekers of employment scams

As the summer job search season approaches, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is urging the public to exercise caution when verifying employment offers to avoid being scammed.

Katarina Schmeider, Communications Director of the BBB of Upstate New York, stresses the importance of vigilance, advising job seekers to research and confirm the legitimacy of the company offering employment.

Schmeider points out one prevalent scam where fraudsters send a check to the victim, supposedly for setting up a home office. The victim, who has shared their banking details, receives a fraudulent check, leading to substantial financial loss or misuse of their personal information.

The BBB strongly advises anyone contacted by a company about a job to thoroughly research the company and its job postings. They warn that unsolicited job offers should be treated with suspicion.
