It’s been learned that the 48-year-old Butler man who was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated last weekend in Cayuga County is the current highway superintendent in the town of Butler.
Richard Robinson III, 48, was stopped by deputies for a traffic violation. The traffic stop happened on Beech Road near Canoga Road around 2 a.m.
Deputies said he was speeding and failed to maintain his lane.
A roadside investigation found that his blood alcohol content was more than two-times the legal limit.
As result, he was charged with aggravated DWI, DWI, and other traffic violations.
He was issued appearance tickets returnable to local court at a later date.
Officials later confirmed that Robinson was in a town-owned vehicle during the incident. He’s since been prohibited from operating town vehicles, according to reporting by the Wayne Times.
Butler Town Supervisor Tom Mettler told the Times this week that it was a ‘sad’ situation. “Thank God nobody got hurt,” he said. “There are no excuses for this.”
