Canandaigua man convicted on rape, unlawful imprisonment after 7 day trial in Ontario County

Alexander Kise, a 21-year-old resident of Canandaigua was found guilty by an Ontario County Jury on several serious charges, including first and third-degree rape, criminal sexual act, unlawful imprisonment, coercion, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing. These convictions stem from Kiseโ€™s actions over two days, where he assaulted, threatened, and sexually abused a young woman he had connected with on social media. The trial, which lasted seven days, presented overwhelming evidence of the victimโ€™s harrowing experience.

Assistant District Attorneys Victoria Porter and Kelly Wolford led the prosecution, with Hon. Brian Dennis presiding over the case. The verdict delivered on Friday, March 15, 2024, was seen as a significant victory for the victim, restoring the power taken from her by Kise in June 2022. The prosecution thanked the Canandaigua Police Department, New York State Police Crime Laboratory, and Ontario County Sheriffโ€™s Office for their dedication to securing justice.

Kise was apprehended shortly after the verdict was announced and is now detained at the Ontario County Jail. Awaiting sentencing, he faces a maximum of 57 years in state prison, followed by 20 years of post-release supervision, emphasizing the legal systemโ€™s commitment to holding offenders accountable for preying on community members.
