The Yacht Club Cove Homeowners Association in Pittsford has initiated the process to upgrade its boat docks on Canandaigua Lake by applying for the necessary permits from the state DEC. This association, representing a community of 84 homes along West Lake Road, aims to modernize its waterfront facilities, which include 108 boat slips, alongside amenities such as a clubhouse, a swimming pool, and a spa. The proposed project involves the installation of new aluminum docks, replacing the older wooden structures to enhance the area’s accessibility and functionality for residents.
To move forward with the dock replacement, the association seeks two specific permits: an excavation and fill-in navigable waters permit and a freshwater wetlands permit. The plan includes transitioning from 5-foot-wide wooden floating docks to a mix of 4-foot-wide floating finger docks and 6-foot-wide fixed docks, supported by steel helical piles. This modernization effort promises to improve the aesthetic and practical aspects of the waterfront for homeowners and their guests.
The DEC has reviewed the project proposal and concluded it will not significantly impact the environment, noting there will be no excavation involved. Community members and other interested parties are encouraged to review the filed application documents and draft permits at the DEC’s Region 8 headquarters in Avon. Public comments are welcomed until February 22, providing a platform for feedback and engagement on the development plans for Yacht Club Cove’s waterfront facilities.
