Confrontation led to car-pedestrian incident in Genoa that left victim hospitalized; local man faces charges

Sheriff Brian Schenck has provided an update on a car-pedestrian accident in the town of Genoa that apparently began with an altercation between the suspect and victim.

Upon arrival on Stevens Street, deputies found emergency medical services treating a patient at the edge of the road. The patient was later transported to University Hospital for treatment and has since been released.

According to witness accounts and the driverโ€™s statement, the incident began with a confrontation in a parking lot where the pedestrian initiated an argument and physical altercation with the driver.

The investigation revealed that the pedestrian had climbed onto the sidestep of the vehicle during the dispute, and was subsequently thrown off as the driver, identified as Michael S. Ward, left the scene.

Further inquiries indicated that Ward had been under the influence of alcohol prior to the incident. Consequently, he was arrested and charged with DWI, DWAI, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Following his arrest, Ward was processed at the Cayuga County Public Safety Building and released on appearance tickets. He is scheduled for arraignment in the Town of Genoa Court on December 5, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.

The Cayuga County Sheriffโ€™s Office continues to investigate the incident and encourages anyone with relevant information to contact Deputy Wojcikowski.
