Charles Grefer, a 53-year-old ex-convict from Rochester, was found guilty on Wednesday in Cayuga County Court for misrepresenting his criminal background and professional credentials on an application for a top county position.
The Citizen reports that Grefer applied for the director of Community Services for Cayuga County on December 7, 2021, a role responsible for overseeing mental health services and managing a multimillion-dollar budget.
Grefer falsely stated that he had a clean criminal record and valid mental health counselor (LMHC) license. However, that license was revoked in 2019. He also was convicted of embezzling over $383,000.
Now he now faces a prison sentence of 2 to 4 years.
