Three villages in Cayuga County — Aurora, Cayuga, and Union Springs — are uniting to vie for a $10 million grant through New York’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI).
A rule alteration by the state has facilitated this collaborative application, allowing local governments to partner for the grant, a provision that was unavailable until the previous year, according to reporting this week by The Citizen.
The collaborative effort began when Kari Terwilliger from the Cayuga County Department of Planning and Economic Development initiated discussions with the village mayors, aiming to fortify their joint application.
The initiative already saw fruition last year when the village of Clinton and town of Kirkland jointly won the DRI grant.
The mayors of the involved villages are optimistic about the collaborative endeavor and believe that this combined effort holds stronger appeal and augments the potential to secure the grant.
