Altagracios De La Cruz-Calderon, a 60-year-old living in Oneida County, has pleaded guilty to reentering the United States unlawfully following a previous deportation due to an aggravated felony conviction. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Thomas P. Brophy, Field Office Director of ICE-ERO in Buffalo, NY.
In court, De La Cruz-Calderon confessed to returning to the U.S. after his deportation to the Dominican Republic, which followed his federal imprisonment for drug and gun offenses in the 1990s. He was discovered residing in New Hartford, New York, after his illegal reentry.
Set for July 10, 2024, De La Cruz-Calderon’s sentencing by Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes could lead to a maximum of 20 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, and three years of supervised release post-imprisonment. This case highlights the rigorous enforcement of immigration laws and the consequences of illegal reentry after deportation, particularly following an aggravated felony conviction.
