Double fatal accident after Waterloo man flees Waterloo police under investigation

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on a double fatal accident that happened on Thursday a little before 1 a.m. in the town of Waterloo.

According to a news release, the accident happened at 12:54 a.m. on Burgess Road. A vehicle was northbound on Burgess Road traveling at a high rate of speed and left the roadway striking a tree.

Before the accident the vehicle was observed in the village of Waterloo with a traffic violation. While police turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled northbound on Burgess with its headlights off.

The driver was identified as Antonio Herbert, 27, of Waterloo; and passenger as Egypt Harris, 18, formerly of Romulus. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other occupants or vehicles involved in the accident, deputies added.

The New York State Police, Waterloo Fire Department, Border City Fire Department, and North Seneca Ambulance also responded to the scene. The vehicle was demolished and was towed from the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.

Sheriff’s Investigators are working closely with the Waterloo Police Department, Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
