The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s HAB System has reported five new Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) on Owasco Lake this Monday.
These newly identified blooms are primarily concentrated in the southern half of the lake, with the majority located on its eastern side.
Although not all HABs are toxic, they can pose health risks to both humans and animals. Exposure to these blooms can lead to symptoms including vomiting, respiratory issues, and irritation of the skin, eyes, or throat. Residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution.
