A total of $25 million, allocated in the State Budget for 2023-24, will be available for departments to enhance their facilities and equipment. Additionally, $10 million will help cover the training costs for volunteer firefighters.

The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services will administer the capital grants program. This program focuses on upgrading fire stations and training facilities, ensuring safety and compliance with building codes. It also supports firefighter safety by providing personal protective equipment (PPE), decontamination supplies, and exhaust removal systems. Moreover, it encourages the consolidation of fire services to improve local and statewide response capabilities.
