On September 21 seventh-grade students from Gananda Middle School embarked on an enriching field trip to Rochester.
Their journey led them to several locations including the Rochester Public Market, the Open Door Mission, High Falls, and Genesee Valley Park.
Before setting off, the students collectively gathered donations and were divided into teams, each given a grocery list and money.
Their task was to buy food items for the Open Door Mission from the Public Market. In addition to the food, they generously contributed $70 towards the Thanksgiving Appeal. At the Open Door Mission, the students learned about the organization’s objectives and the profound effect of the contributions they collect.
The enlightening day continued as they moved to High Falls, where discussions revolved around the Genesee River’s significant role in shaping Rochester’s growth.
Their trip culminated with a lunch at Genesee Valley Park, where they savored empanadas from Juan and Maria’s Empanadas Shop. The entire excursion centered around the themes of Diversity, Empathy, and History, instilling invaluable lessons in the young minds.
