A Georgia man, Gregory William Hill, 39, known by multiple aliases including Gregory Allen Davis and John Martin Hill, has been sentenced to 45 months in federal prison for aggravated identity theft and misuse of a social security number.
United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and FBI Special Agent Craig L. Tremaroli announced the sentencing today. Hill, who is already serving a 7-year sentence in Georgia for a romance fraud scheme, will serve this federal sentence consecutively.
Hill admitted to impersonating a Syracuse University graduate in 2018 in an attempt to fraudulently obtain the victim’s academic transcripts and diploma. He used a Virginia driver’s license with his photo but the victim’s name and falsely presented his own social security card as belonging to the victim.
Hill’s deceit extended to applying for a job with a Virginia-based healthcare company, falsely claiming to be a Syracuse University graduate. This sentence will be followed by three years of federal supervised release after Hill completes his imprisonment. The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael F. Perry.
