Harrison Bader crushed a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth as the New York Yankees (47-38) picked up a 6-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles (49-34) in the series opener on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.
Bader’s clutch home run came after the Yankees erased a three-run deficit. Anthony Volpe and Kyle Higashioka went back-to-back in the fifth before Volpe tied the game in the seventh on a wild pitch.
Domingo Germán made his first start since tossing a perfect game against Oakland and allowed three runs (two earned) over 4 1/3 innings while striking out five.
The bullpen was perfect as Nick Ramirez, Ian Hamilton, Tommy Kahnle, and Clay Holmes all posted scoreless outings.
The Yankees will try to take the first two games of this four-game series on Tuesday when they send Clarke Schmidt to the mound. The first pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m.
