A chlorine exposure incident at the Holiday Inn Express in Ithaca, which resulted in nine children requiring hospital treatment, is currently under investigation by local and state health departments.
The children, who were attending a birthday party on December 16, experienced symptoms consistent with chlorine poisoning, including chest pain, coughing, vomiting, and headaches.
The incident has raised concerns among parents and led to public complaints against the hotel for its handling of the pool’s chemical levels.
Tompkins County Environmental Health confirmed the ongoing investigation, noting that the children’s symptoms resolved within three days of the incident.
The hotel pool was temporarily closed but has since reopened after passing inspections and tests. Despite this, the Holiday Inn Express had been previously fined for unrelated pool maintenance issues, highlighting ongoing safety concerns.
