Historic Phelps Hotel renovation delayed due to lack of grants

Over a year after local couple Greg Mayo and Christy Howard purchased the historic Phelps Hotel in downtown Phelps, progress on the eagerly anticipated renovation has been slower than expected.

Howard tells the Finger Lakes Times that while significant interior work has been undertaken, the lack of grant funding has caused delays.

Despite the building being listed on the National Register of Historic Places and being named to the Landmark Society of Western New Yorkโ€™s โ€œFive to Reviveโ€ list for 2021, the couple has been unsuccessful in securing necessary financial support.

Despite the challenges the two remain optimistic about getting the historic property renovated.
