Governor Kathy Hochul announced a training fair to prepare New Yorkers for employment in the Interstate 81 Viaduct Project in Syracuse. The fair, organized by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the State Department of Labor, will take place on January 31 at the CNY Works Career Center in Syracuse. It aims to connect job seekers with relevant training programs, making them ready for employment in this significant infrastructure project.
The Heavy Construction Training Fair will feature over a dozen organizations, including labor representatives and educational institutions, to provide information on various training programs. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure local participation in the I-81 Viaduct project, including a Local Hire Program incentivizing the employment of residents from disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Governor Hochul emphasized the projectโs transformative potential for Central New York and the importance of local workforce involvement. NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez and Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon encouraged interested individuals to attend the fair and learn about career opportunities. The I-81 Viaduct Project, a key element of Governor Hochulโs infrastructure modernization plan, aims to reconnect communities and enhance transportation in the region.
