Horseheads village trustee who caused Yates crash indicted on DWI, vehicular assault charges

Mark J. Cronin, a Horseheads Village Trustee, faces multiple charges following a DWI crash on July 4, 2023, near Penn Yan, which resulted in injuries to five people. The Yates County Clerkโ€™s Office released an indictment on December 28, detailing the charges against Cronin.

Cronin was indicted on two counts of vehicular assault in the first degree, two counts of driving while intoxicated, and one count of failing to stop at a stop sign. The incident occurred when he was driving a pickup truck on Second Milo Road under the influence of alcohol. He reportedly failed to adhere to a stop sign at the intersection of Old Bath Road and Second Milo Road.

The crash involved another vehicle carrying eight passengers, including six children. According to the indictment, five individuals were severely injured as a result of the collision.

The Yates County District Attorney offered Cronin a plea deal, which he declined. Court documents indicate that Cronin is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday, January 9.
