Tiffany Kumar, an alderperson representing Ithaca’s Fourth Ward and a Cornell University undergraduate student, discovered her car vandalized with a derogatory note on Thursday afternoon.
The incident was reported over the weekend by The Ithaca Voice.
It crudely demanding her resignation, and the damage to her vehicle, which appeared to be struck with a brick, have raised concerns of political intimidation in the community.
Kumar, who was elected unopposed and began her term in early 2023, found the incident disturbing and plans to file a police report.
The incident has sparked reactions from other council members. Alderperson Ducson Nguyen labeled the act against Kumar as misogynistic and politically motivated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
