Lyons reports sewage discharge due to pipe break

The Lyons public service department has issued a notice regarding a sewage discharge at 7544 NYS Route 31, Lyons, NY, affecting a roadside drainage swale that could potentially reach the Erie Canal. The discharge, observed early on February 8 was caused by a pipe break, releasing untreated sewage at an estimated volume of 450 gallons over a duration of 69 minutes.

Immediate actions were taken to mitigate the environmental impact, including shutting off pumps and damming the affected ditch to prevent further spread. The cause of the discharge is attributed to a force main break, with repair efforts pending dig safe clearance.
