Man convicted of firing weapon after roadside altercation in Webster

Damien Spears, 38, was found guilty by a jury on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon following a roadside altercation in Webster last year.

Prosecutors stated that Spears discharged his firearm at two people after they returned the trash he had thrown out of his SUV. The incident, which occurred on Lake Road on June 25, 2022, did not result in any injuries.

Spears, a former convict with a history of robbery, assault, and promoting prostitution, was wearing a GPS ankle monitor at the time of the incident.

Prosecutors expressed disappointment in a statement, saying Spears squandered his chance to rehabilitate and integrate back into society. Instead, he resorted to illegal firearm possession and violent behavior.

Spears, who faces 16 years to life in prison, is scheduled for sentencing on September 25.
