In the pre-dawn hours of August 9, a brief police pursuit in Van Etten concluded with two individuals in custody facing weapons and narcotics charges.
Authorities identified the driver as 20-year-old Sarah Brown of Waverly, who halted the car after a short chase. An ensuing search by law enforcement, assisted by a K-9 unit, unearthed methamphetamines and unauthorized pills. Subsequently, Brown and the passenger, 32-year-old Steven Park of Brooktondale, were arrested.

Park, found with a loaded .32 caliber revolver and an M1 carbine rifle, was further implicated by an active weapons possession warrant from Ithaca. Already a convicted felon, Park was barred from owning firearms and now faces charges of weapon and controlled substance possession. While Park is held at Chemung County Jail on a $100,000 cash bail, Brown, charged with controlled substance possession and evading police, received appearance tickets.
Two additional passengers were not charged, and officials note more such operations are in the pipeline for Chemung County.
