Manchester teen seriously injured trying to save dog hit by car on Rt. 96

A 19-year-old woman from Manchester, New York, was severely injured and airlifted after being hit by a vehicle on State Route 96 near Kyte Road, while attempting to save a dog that had been struck by another vehicle.

The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. in the town of Manchester, according to authorities. The dog, hit by a westbound vehicle, did not survive the accident.

The woman, who attempted to rescue the animal, was subsequently hit by a vehicle traveling east on State Route 96. She suffered significant lower body injuries due to the impact. Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident, and she was airlifted to Strong Hospital by Mercy Flight. Her condition remains undisclosed at this time.

The drivers of both vehicles involved remained on scene following the accident. Police stated that no criminal charges are expected to be filed related to this incident, suggesting it to be a tragic accident. Further updates are anticipated as the investigation continues.
