Microchip switch maker, Menlo Microsystems, is set to establish its first domestic manufacturing facility near Ithaca in the village of Lansing, Tompkins County.
The company will invest $50 million, creating more than 100 jobs. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Governor Kathy Hochul.
Menlo Micro’s CEO, Russ Garcia, stated that the company plans to increase the domestic production of its Ideal Switch, a type of switch used in communications infrastructure.
In addition to the federal support through the CHIPS and Science Act, aimed at enhancing domestic semiconductor manufacturing, the project will receive state aid. Empire State Development, New York’s principal economic development agency, will provide $6.5 million in Excelsior Jobs tax credits tied to job creation objectives.
The manufacturing facility will complement Micron’s historic $100 billion investment in a semiconductor manufacturing facility near Syracuse, over an hour away. Production at the Lansing facility is scheduled to commence in 2024.
