Justin Verlander struggled with his command as he issued a season-high six walks over five innings, one shy of his career-high while allowing three runs, all of which came in the fifth.
The offense provided no run support as they were held to just one hit, which came from Brandon Nimmo, who doubled in the first.
David Peterson, Dominic Leone, and Drew Smith surrendered runs out of the bullpen.
The Mets will hand the ball to Kodai Senga on Saturday as they look to snap a three-game skid. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
