The New York Mets (36-46) fell to a season-low 10 games under .500 with a 5-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants (46-36) in the series opener on Friday night at Citi Field.
With New York leading 4-2 in the top of the eighth, David Robertson came on and served up a go-ahead three-run homer and the Mets could not rally in the last two innings.
Jeff McNeil had a pair of RBI doubles to lead the way. Tommy Pham crushed his ninth home run of the season and Omar Narvaez lifted a sacrifice fly.
Carlos Carrasco surrendered a pair of runs over five innings of work.
The Mets will try to bounce back and even the series on Saturday at 4:10 p.m.
