Mets cruise past Cardinals behind Jeff McNeil’s big offensive night

The New York Mets (57-66) cruised past the St. Louis Cardinals (54-69), 7-1, on Friday night at Busch Stadium behind a big offensive night from Jeff McNeil.

McNeil crushed a three-run home run, his sixth of the season, and drove in a run with a single. His homer broke the game open in the seventh.

Brandon Nimmo contributed with his 18th long ball, while Francisco Lindor and Francisco Alvarez chipped in RBI.

Joey Lucchesi tossed 5 2/3 shutout innings before Phil Bickford, Sam Coonrod, and Dennis Santana recorded scoreless outings.

The Mets will try to take the first three games of this four-game series on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
