Mets edged by Rangers in second straight loss 

The New York Mets (60-73) dropped another close one to the Texas Rangers (75-57) on Tuesday night at Citi Field, losing 2-1.

It was a scoreless game until Drew Smith entered the game in the seventh and surrendered a solo home run to Mitch Garver on the second pitch of his outing. Phil Bickford gave up the Rangers’ second run in the ninth before Mark Vientos broke up the shutout with a two-out home run in the home half, his third of the season.

Jose Quintana bounces back from his rough outing in Atlanta, tossing six shutout frames while allowing just three hits and striking out five. 

The Mets will try to avoid the sweep on Wednesday at 6:40 p.m.
