Mets’ Pete Alonso falls in Round 1 of Home Run Derby

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was competing for his third Home Run Derby title on Monday night at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, but he fell in the first round. 

Alonso was eliminated by the hometown kid, Julio Rodríguez, for a second straight year.

Rodríguez set a new record for the most homers in any round in MLB Home Run Derby history with 41 while Alonso finished with 21. 

Alonso was trying to join Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. as the only three-time winners.
