Under the new Major League Baseball rules, any player ejected for having a “sticky substance” on their hand or glove is given an automatic 10-game suspension.
However, the league will not officially announce the suspension until Wednesday.
The Mets will not be able to replace Smith on the active roster, which hurts a bullpen that is already one of the worst in baseball.
