Mets swept by Tigers, shut out for sixth time

The New York Mets (16-16) were swept for the sixth time on Thurday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers (13-17) at Comerica Park. New York has dropped four of their last five games and nine of 11.

Justin Verlanderโ€™s Mets debut got off to a rocky start as he gave up back-to-back home runs in the first inning, but he settled in and went five innings while striking out five.

New Yorkโ€™s offense was held to just three hits, none of which were for extra bases. Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, and Tommy Pham had singles.

The Mets will try to get back on track Friday when they begin a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Citi Field. Kodai Senga will take the mound for New York. The first pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m.
