Mets take series from Nationals behind Justin Verlander’s 250th career win 

The New York Mets (50-55) closed their weekend with a 5-2 series-clinching victory over the Washington Nationals (44-62). 

Justin Verlander allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings and picked up his 250th career win. 

Francisco Lindor smacked his 21st home run of the season. Pete Alonso drove in two runs, while Jeff McNeil and Omar Narváez also plated runs. 

The Mets will get the day off Monday before they open a three-game series with the Royals Tuesday night in Kansas City.
