Mets take two of three from Cubs

The New York Mets (52-62) edged the Chicago Cubs (59-56), 4-3, Wednesday night at Citi Field to secure a series win.ย

New York fell behind 2-0 but scored four consecutive runs to grab the lead before the bullpen held on in the ninth inning, thanks to Phil Bickford, who recorded a game-ending strikeout with the bases loaded.

Pete Alonso homered for the third consecutive game. His 35th of the season tied the game at two in the fourth.

Jeff McNeil broke the tie in the sixth with his fifth long ball. Later in the frame, Jonathan Arauz added an RBI single, which proved to be a huge run.

David Peterson gave up two runs over 3 2/3 innings before the bullpen pieced it together.

The Mets will get the day off Thursday before they begin a four-game series with the Atlanta Braves at home Friday night.
