New York families set to receive one-time $100 payment: How will it work?

The state of New York announced a one-time financial assistance initiative aimed at supporting low-income families with children under 17.

Originating from unused funds of the federal Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund, part of the 2021 American Rescue Plan, the state will disburse $100 to over 120,000 eligible households.

Gov. Hochul praised the initiative, attributing New Yorkโ€™s access to these additional funds to its prior successful allocation of federal aid. โ€œThis quick cash infusion will alleviate some of the economic strains these families faced during the pandemic,โ€ Hochul stated.

Barbara C. Guinn, Acting Commissioner of the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, echoed the sentiment, underscoring that the โ€œmodest paymentsโ€ will assist families grappling with escalating household expenses. Eligible families can expect notifications about the payments, which commenced on Oct. 17, via mail.
