New York State Sheriffs’ Association urges enrollment in operation safe child program

The New York State Sheriffs’ Association is encouraging parents and guardians to register for Operation Safe Child, a no-cost initiative offering vital child identification cards.

The cards, which can expedite the process of locating missing children, are offered by 58 county sheriffs and other participating law enforcement agencies across New York State.

These cards contain crucial details such as the child’s name, photograph, fingerprint images of both index fingers, and other identifying biological details like gender, eye color, hair color, and date of birth. The cards, which can be created within minutes and conveniently carried in a purse or wallet, allow parents to quickly provide necessary information to law enforcement officials.

This information can also be used in conjunction with Amber Alerts and other missing child alert systems, and can be disseminated rapidly when needed. Parents and guardians interested in enrolling in Operation Safe Child can contact their local sheriff’s office.
