A New York State Trooper, identified as 30-year-old John M. Grassia III, was among three individuals killed in a helicopter crash over the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. The tragic accident, which also claimed the lives of two National Guard soldiers and a Border Patrol agent, occurred on Friday. Another soldier sustained injuries in the crash, as reported by the military.
Trooper Grassia, who joined the New York State Police in April 2022 and was assigned to Troop G, was remembered by the New York State Troopers PBA as dedicated to serving and protecting both the citizens of New York State and the United States. The helicopter was flying over the border when it crashed, leading to this devastating loss.
Funeral arrangements for Trooper Grassia are currently pending, as the community and his colleagues mourn the loss of a committed public servant.
