New York unveils over $16M for clean hydrogen innovation

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the allocation of more than $16 million to propel innovations in clean hydrogen technology, marking a significant step toward achieving New York Stateโ€™s zero-emission electricity goals by 2040. This funding, facilitated through the Hydrogen and Clean Fuel Program, is set to support research, development, and demonstration projects across the state, emphasizing the use of clean hydrogen in sectors like industrial processes, clean transportation, and energy storage.

The funding initiative, managed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), offers two competitive financial opportunities aimed at fostering federal hydrogen funding for New York-based projects. This strategic move underscores the stateโ€™s commitment to environmental justice, aiming to transition to 100 percent zero-emission electricity as part of the ambitious Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, NYSERDAโ€™s efforts aim to bolster New Yorkโ€™s position as a leader in clean energy innovation. The initiative reflects the stateโ€™s dedication to reducing emissions, promoting job creation in the green economy, and advancing clean hydrogen as a viable, low-carbon fuel option for a sustainable future.
